Lord Brian Hutton

 

Lord Brian Hutton, a former Lord Chief Justice of Northern Ireland and a retired Law Lord in the United Kingdom. Lord Hutton was born in Northern Ireland in 1929 and was educated at Queen's University Belfast. He was called to the Bar in 1951 and went on to have a distinguished legal career, serving as a judge in both Northern Ireland and England. Lord Hutton was best known for leading the Hutton Inquiry, a public inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death of the British government weapons expert Dr. David Kelly in 2003. The inquiry was held to investigate the circumstances surrounding Kelly's death, which was initially reported as a suicide, and to determine whether the government had acted improperly in any way. Lord Hutton's findings were widely reported in the media and had a significant impact on the UK political landscape at the time.

Lord Hutton is widely regarded as a highly respected and impartial judge. He retired from the bench in 2004 and was made a life peer, taking the title Baron Hutton of Bresagh. He continues to be an active member of the House of Lords, where he has spoken on a range of legal and constitutional issues.
